Welcome to the Yeovil Night Shelter
We are currently making changes to the traditional night shelter service that we used to operate. We are now operating the new working model in the shape of a drop in. Proof of the pudding is in the eating, since opening the Drop in on the 19th september 2011 we have been able to house in excess of 14 people with help from private landlords, SSDC and local hostels, we have given advocacy help to many others and helped people to avoid becoming homeless, we have even been able to help our longterm Polish clients to claim Benefit and now seek accomodation, this is a relief to everyone not for them to be in a well known car park. We currently have a small amount of clients coming in 3/4 per night and this is because the drop in is addressing issues so sucessfully.
The night Shelter drop in offers an evening meal service between 7pm and 9pm and this is 7 nights a week, washing facilities and laundry are still offered.
Also the shelter will expand on the dry house and group work that we do, with the expectation of helping more people to live an active life free of drugs and alcohol.
It is really important that we continue to enhance the work that Peter Love has started. This project has raised passion in many and we all aim to make sure that this vital provision survives and continues to help everyone for many years to come. The shelter continues to help a wide range of people from those on the street either through Drugs/Alcohol or some form of addiction that they are not in control of, to our dry houses where people live a happy, clean and healthy life with support of friends and a job.
Today the night Shelter is run by a board of Trustees; these are made up of local Business People and retired Professionals Today our Chairman is Bob Betts
