Welcome to the Yeovil Night Shelter
As you see we have made massive changes to the traditional night shelter service that we used to operate. We are now operating the new working model in the shape of a drop in, and this is helping Yeovil to operate other government incentives like, 'no second night out'. It is really important to us to stop anyone becoming homeless. We currently have low numbers of people using the drop in and this shows us the new model is working well and efficiently, stopping homeless from becoming aa longer term experience. The advocacy and events worker is now in place and is doing a good job of continuing to help people sort the worry of financial pressure and insecure housing.
The night Shelter drop in offers an evening meal service between 7pm and 9pm. This time could be brought forward to 4pm til 6pm in future and this is continuing to be 7 nights a week, we are still consulting with every one regarding the time change. Clients can still acess washing facilities and laundry.
The shelter is trying to expand on the dry house and group work that we do, with the expectation of helping more people to live an active life free of drugs and alcohol.
We are currently asking for your help in renaming the organisation. Yeovil Night Shelter has been a good servant and has done what it says on the tin. But now it has moved on and needs to be revamped, we could do with your help, we want a name that is easy to remember, that says what we do, that can't be turned into something derogatory or demeaning. If you come up with an idea please contact Chris asap.
It is really important that we continue to enhance the work that Peter Love has started. This project has raised passion in many and we all aim to make sure that this vital provision survives and continues to help everyone for many years to come. The shelter continues to help a wide range of people from those on the street either through Drugs/Alcohol or some form of addiction that they are not in control of, to our dry houses where people live a happy, clean and healthy life with support of friends and a job.
